Our state-of-the-art Vascular Lab is one of only two accredited Vascular Labs in Naples, FL. It is staffed by a registered ultrasonographer and all studies are overseen and read by Drs. Scanlon and Anderson.
Drs. Scanlon and Anderson have the added qualification as a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation from the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography. The lab is used to perform non-invasive and painless imaging and physiological testing of the vascular system. It is conveniently located in our office and can accommodate most same-day urgent testing needs.
Ultrasound is particularly well suited for evaluating arteries and veins. It allows for real-time imaging of the blood vessels and gives critical information about blood flow and other characteristics that allow your vascular surgeon to identify and qualify and conditions you may have. Most tests last roughly 30 minutes, are painless, and require no changes to your normal medications or routine.
Specific diagnoses/conditions where ultrasound is used to identify, qualify and track vascular conditions are:
Abdominal aortic aneurysm
Aneurysm or blockage of abdominal arteries (arteries to the kidneys, spleen or intestines)
Carotid arteries (blockages)
Arteries of the legs and/or arms
Blood clots (deep vein thrombosis - DVT) of the legs or arms
Venous insufficiency, or "reflux," causing varicose veins
Vein mapping for hemodialysis surgery
Other studies performed in our vascular lab include physiological tests to "measure" blood flow to the arms and legs. Tests such as Pulse Volume Recordings and Segmental Pressure Indices are helpful in determining the severity of a condition, typically a blockage. These tests are also painless and non-invasive, and require no special changes to your medications or routine.
Physiological testing is typically used to identify, qualify and track the following vascular conditions:
Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) from blockages in leg arteries
Thoracic outlet syndrome which results from obstruction of normal circulation to the arms
Reynaud's Syndrome
